Learning more about autism can help to understand consciousness in the human brain.

Greater level of autism means lower level of consciousness.

An autistic can't be recognized oneself, but training can help him to interact with the world.

Re:(+) Autism --- (-) Consciousness - 2008/02/11 19:15 I agree that the study of autism (and more generally Autism Spectrum Disorders - ASD) is one of the right places to look in the quest for understanding consciousness.

A related topic to be remarked in relation with the study of autism is the key role of consciousness in social skills. The inability of autistics to develop a social life demonstrates the need of a model of the self (in other words, to develop a theory of mind – ToM) in order to successfully take part in a social environment.
