Scientific Consensus: Best Theory of Consciousness - 2009/07/06 00:15
There is a group of volunteers working on an open survey project to collaboratively develop concise descriptions of the best theories of consciousness, and then measure and track how much consensus there is, especially amongst experts for each. They are using the open survey system at http://canonizer.com which is being developed for such purposes.
Already, the Consciousness is Representational and Real camp continues to extend its lead in the amount of scientific consensus it has compared to any other theory of consciousness. Leading scientists such as Steven Lehar, John Smythies, and others are supporting and developing this camp.
There is always the chance that a scientific discovery, or demonstrable scientific proof is about to show up which will convert all experts to accept the same theory. We would like to rigorously track this process as it happens, and in fact believe it has already started.
If you have an idea which theory this might turn out to be, we would certainly love to here from you.
