The scientific study of “natural” consciousness is actually the main source of inspiration for the field of machine consciousness. A multidisciplinary approach has to be taken in order to understand the nature of consciousness. Disciplines like neurology, mathematics, quantum physics, neuroanatomy, psychology, philosophy, and computer science have to be taken into account. This is the vast realm of neuroscience. This post was intended as a forum introduction - just a message clarifying the contents expected wihtin this forum. Threads like "Consciousness models applied to MC" is an example.

I just wanted to say that you can open new threads on any aspect of consciousness theories whitin this category. It can be done in the Consciousness Theories Category page (http://www.conscious-robots.com/en/forums/consciousness-theories/showcat.html) clicking the 'NEW' button.

It is looking every else for help instead of looking directly to consciousness. The power is consciousness, that is what helps you to create the machine therefore it is all that matters. I dont agree with Ray Kurzweils philosphy because it portrays us as under developed, we constantly look everywhere else for the answers. Why not rely solely on consciousness, instead of a machine. I believe technology will help us understand and develop our abilities, But only you as a person can know consciousness.

Along the lines of your thought, I'd say that the main role of technology in this field is to help us understanding how consciousness can be produced.

If you distinguish between consciousness itself (or phenomenal consciousness) and the contents of consciousness, then your thought could be redefined differently, i.e. let's say that technology might not enhance your consciousness but it can surely enhance the contents of your consciousness. In fact, the use of technology nowadays has expanded the mental contents we can be aware of, don't you think so?
