Windows not only recognizes NXT - 2008/01/27 18:02 My problem is that NXT brick couldn't start in boot mode, so lego's software couldn't install the firware. I tryed everything like 5 secs reset without usb cable. New batteries. Last drivers. Different pc's. Everything I've read in forums. Nothing. I only listen a very low tick - tick. I don't know what else to do. Windows message is that usb device not working properly. Lego's software can't installs the firware because "NXT brick not found". I change USB ports and cables. Any help?

Re:Windows not only recognizes NXT - 2008/01/28 10:32 Hi, are you using Windows XP, Vista or MacOS? 32-bit or 64-bit?

Have you installed the latest version of Lego NXT software in your PC? Have you tried to uninstall and install again the NXT software? Anyhow, if you already tried with differents PCs this won't help

I've heard that you can upload the firmware even if the USB device is not recognized by the OS? Have you tried this? Just ignore that the device is not being recognized and upload the firmware. I haven't done this myself, so I don't have more details.. I'll post here again if I get the original information from the guy who told me this trick.

Re:Windows not only recognizes NXT - 2008/01/30 11:55 So here is the solution that helped my friend. It seems that could help you as well:

Why does my NXT brick fail to boot or just sit and make a soft clicking or beeping sound?

For some reason, the NXT has entered a firmware dowload mode. Try this: plug the NXT into the computer with the USB cable (a Bluetooth connection will not work for this) and in the menubar select Tools > Update Firmware. You might also want to press the hardware reset button as well – this is a tiny little button at the bottom of the pinhole on the bottom of the NXT case, closest to the USB port. You can push it with an unfolded paperclip, but a LEGO antenna works too!
If you have the LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT set, see the User Guide p. 74 for details.
