Microsoft Robotics Group has recently released the final version of Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio 2008 (also known as version 2.0 of Microsoft Robotics Studio). The July CTP (Community Technical Preview) version of MRDS that we were using is going to be removed from the Download area. However, as it is currently required by Robochamps current challenge entries, it'll still be there for some time.

The news here is that Microsoft Robotics has established a new licensing scheme, offering these four editions of MRDS 2008:

  • Robotics Developer Studio 2008 Express Edition: the express edition is available free of charge for both commercial and non-commercial use. However, this licence does not allow redistribution and is limited. There is no edit mode in the simulation, floorpan editor is also missing, it is limited to 64 entities, and there is no support for collada models.

  • Robotics Developer Studio 2008 Standard Edition: this is the full version of the product which is available for purchase. Current online price is around 500 dollars.

  • Robotics Developer Studio 2008 Academic Edition: this is the same as standard but intended for academic and education use only.

  • Robotics Developer Studio 2008 Discovery Edition: this edition is intended for OEM and not for general release.

Download is available from Microsoft Robotics Download.
