Microsoft Releases Soccer Simulation for Microsoft Robotics Studio (1.0)- Preview March 2007
If you were wondering how to set your CPU Idle time to 0% and didn't find a funny way to do it, maybe this is interesting for you (but don't try it at home while you are running more heavy applications at the same time!).
Another important sign that demonstrates that Microsoft is really trying to have a name in robotics is that they are sponsoring RoboCup 2007. There will be a simulation competition based on the MSRS physics-based 3D simulation environment. What has been released now works with NXT differential drives, but they are planning to include legged robots for the competition in July.
As Microsoft says, simulation is heavily consuming CPU time: "Please note that for running all 4 simulated soccer players at the same time, a high end graphics card is required". However, it worked fairly smooth on my AMD Athlon 64+ 3200+. The good news for those who have enough funding is that an Ageia accelerator card can be used to accelerate physics 3D rendering.
