Ordinal Probability Scale - 2007/05/18 18:54 The Ordinal Probability Scale orders machines according to the probability that they are capable of experiencing phenomenal states [1].

As I understand it, this scale is intended as an indicator of how likely is that a given machine is - phenomenally - conscious. So, strictly speaking it can't be considered a test of consciousness. However, I include this topic here as I think it is interested and quite related to the issue of testing consciousness in artificial machines.

The probability assigned by this scale is very constrained to machines aiming to directly imitate the same functions that human brain performs processing sensory inputs and orchestrating behavior outputs. So I think this could not be applicable for any machine consciousness artifact, but only for those following the approach of closely imitating biological consciousness mechanisms.

Actually, I see it as a rough measurement of how well your implementation imitates human brain. Therefore, I would say that it is not necessarily a scale for phenomenology.

Any thoughts about this scale are welcome within this thread.

Re:Ordinal Probability Scale - 2007/05/18 19:09 I just forgot to mention that the Scale calculation program is available online at:

http://privatewww.essex.ac.uk/~daogam/machineconsciousness/OrdinalProbabilityScale.html

Trying to get a feeling of the possible results I made a few tests. These are ordinal probability weighting for CERA, Cotterill's CyberChild, and a regular cluster-computer:

CERA: 0.000001
Cyberchild: 0.0003025
Computer: 5.5e-7
