simualted sonar and logged sonar readings - 2008/10/10 10:42 hi. this is just a follow up to my previous question. i was reading the code for simulated sonar and i noticed there was something like a "do not send any data unless connected." i noticed that there are "connect" buttons on the control panel of the simulator. i also noticed that, assuming i'm correct, the simulated sonar has to be on a robot to work.

since i'm attempting something similar to simulated sonar but instead it's reading from a file, i don't really want it on a robot. it should really just be sending messages about new updates to the sonar readings. is this a feasible idea? also, an update on my status concerning the loggedsonar service, i'm lost. hahaha....

thanks.

Re:simualted sonar and logged sonar readings - 2008/10/10 18:24 I think the connect stuff you're referring is the Dashboard connect button, isn't it?

The thing is that in my Explorer Sim Sonar application there are two services subscribing to the Simulated Sonar (and therefore receiving updates of the Sonar state). One of the subscribers is obvious, is the control service that uses the sonar range data for navigation. The other subscriber is the Dashboard. The connect button in the dashboard triggers the subscription to the sonar service. Therefore, no sonar data is received in the dashboard until it is "connected", actually subscribed. [The button should read Subscribe instead of connect].

As you are reading from a file, you don't need any robot or simulation in order to get the range data. You just need to read the file in your SonarLogReader service..
